Entertainment suggestions for staying at home

A list compiled of binge-worthy shows, critical masterpieces and fan-favorite films/television shows.

As staying home becomes more essential, finding things (other than schoolwork) to fill the time can be overwhelming. With so many options to choose from, it can be exhausting scrolling through movies and television shows, trying to find the perfect match. From upbeat Saturday-night picks to critically acclaimed masterpieces, here are some entertainment suggestions to help the time fly by.


“Little Women”- After her Oscar-winning hit “Lady Bird”, Greta Gerwig returns in full force with “Little Women”. Adapted from the book of the same name and alongside other film adaptations, Gerwig’s update stands out amongst the crowd, delivering a heartfelt and powerful movie that all generations can relate to.

“The Invisible Man”- Recently released in theaters, this horror/thriller was pulled just three weeks after its theatrical run to go to video on demand. This film’s strong performances and effective scares make it worth a viewing at home.

“Bad Boys For Life”- This high-octane film from the “Bad Boys” franchise reunites Will Smith and Martin Lawrence for a humorous, action-packed, and surprisingly heartfelt sequel. Premiering nearly seventeen years after the second installment, this film exhibits how franchises can be revived in all the right ways.

“The Haunting of Hill House”- A show that effectively combines the supernatural with sentimental issues, “The Haunting of Hill House” has been one main talking point of Netflix original shows. With a second season coming in the near future, this is definitely a show to keep an eye on.

“Bojack Horseman”- For a bit of comedy to lighten up the day, “Bojack Horseman” is one great way to do so. What makes this show stand out is its willingness to delve into emotional storylines, while also maintaining its witty and dry humor. Although it just wrapped up its sixth and final season, this makes it the perfect binge watch with loads of episodes already available.

“Mrs. America”- Released April 15, 2020, “Mrs. America” explores the movement against women’s rights led by Phyllis Schlafly. The show will release episodes weekly on Hulu, but if the reviews are any indicator, it will be more than worth the wait.

“Parasite”/ “Portrait of a Lady on Fire”- Both films are being hailed as international masterpieces and are now available to stream. Winning Best Picture at the 2020 Oscars, “Parasite” is a riveting look at modern class disparity. “Portrait of a Lady on Fire” is a gripping drama that brings new perspective to women and romance in the 18th Century. Both films are unmissable and will linger with the viewer long after the credits roll.
